Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water plus more as needed at about 100-110°F
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 cups bread flour

For the topping:

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, instant yeast, granulated sugar, butter, and salt. Mix the ingredients well until they are evenly distributed. Cover and allow to sit for 10 minutes until it looks frothy and bubbly on top.
  • Gradually add the bread flour to the mixture, one cup at a time, kneading well after each addition. Continue adding flour until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead for about 8-10 minutes or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F/ 200°C.
  • Once the dough has doubled in size, divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 9-inch log and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown.
  • In a small bowl, combine melted butter, kosher salt, and garlic powder for the topping.
  • Remove from the oven and brush each breadstick generously with the mixture.

Notes

For an easier dough-making process, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
