Ingredients

  • 4 large apples Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work best
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry thawed

Instructions

  • Slice the apples into 1 cm (½-inch) thick rounds. Use a corer or small knife to remove the centers so you have donut-style apple rings.
  • In a shallow bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Dip both sides of each apple slice into the mixture, pressing gently so it sticks.
  • Roll out the puff pastry and slice into thin 1 cm strips. Wrap a strip around each apple slice, slightly overlapping as you go.
  • Brush the wrapped apples with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with a little of the leftover cinnamon sugar for extra flavor and sparkle.
  • Place the apple rings on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15 minutes, then broil for 3 minutes until golden and crisp. Let cool slightly, then enjoy while warm and flaky.

Notes

  • You can swap cinnamon for pumpkin pie spice, apple pie spice, or cardamom for a flavor twist.
  • Best enjoyed the day they’re made, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven.
Air Fryer Option
If you want to use the air fryer instead of the oven, prepare the apple rings as directed. Place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Cook at 180°C (350°F) for 10–12 minutes until golden and flaky.
